PRESENTATION

Dr. Mauricio Muñoz begins his medical career in 1997 in Santa Cruz, Bolivia at Universidad Católica Boliviana, and obtains his Medical Doctor degree from Universidad Nuestra Señora de La Paz in La Paz, Bolivia in 2003. He then moves to the United States and spends several years in the medical research field, specifically in the cardiovascular drug research, in a a private cardiology practice called Citrus Cardiology, in Inverness Florida. He then moves to Miami where he works as a medical advisor for a prestigious medical advisory firm called PinnacleCare.

He finished his Internal Medicine residency at the prestigious Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pennsylvania. Geisinger Medical Center is a 600+ bed, tertiary center that has been named one of the best hospitals in the US. He then joins Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital, a recognized regional hospital in Vero Beach, Florida, as a hospitalist and staff physician, practicing inpatient and outpatient primary care in this hospital system for more than 4 years.

During his stay in the US he was awarded as chairman of the Informatics Committee at Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital and he belonged to the academic staff, as a medical instructor, of the University of Central Florida (UFC). Starting in 2021 Dr. Munoz works as a Hospitalist at Baptist Hospital in Miami, a medical center with close to 1000 beds and one of the most prestigious reference medical systems in South Florida. Since 2024 he part of the faculty staff at Florida International University (FIU) as an Assistant Professor of Medicine. 

Amongst his areas of expertise is the diagnosis and management of chronic illnesses of the adult, such as diabetes mellitus, high blood pressure, thyroid diseases, renal diseases, chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases, asthma and sleep medicine (obstructive sleep apnea). He has also an ample experience in the medical management of the bariatric patient, treating obesity and obesity-related diseases. He enjoys also the management of other chronic illnesses such as depression, anxiety and insomnia. Trying always to practice evidence based medicine, he prioritizes preventive medicine following the latest guidelines dictated by the USPSTFS (United States Preventive Services Task Force) and other american specialty associations.

He also received training in aesthetics medicine, botulinum toxoid administration and dermal fillers applications. He is trained to perform office-based cutaneous procedures such as skin biopsies and incision & drainages.

He is certified by the American Heart Association as a BLS and ACLS provider and as an instructor, these are advanced life saving and resuscitation techniques.

His latest endeavor is the foundation of Muñoz Medical, after having decided to return to Santa Cruz, Bolivia in 2016. This medical center’s main goal is to revolutionize medicine in Bolivia, by bringing the latest knowledge and technology focusing in prevention disease and expansion of wellness and health, trying to emphasize the importance of having a trusted family doctor, now a days when medical and surgical subspecialties have evolved so quickly that have stopped focusing in the patient as a human being.
